Gippsland Musicians Invited to Join Project Concert Band and Brass Band for Victorian State Championships

By Malcolm McCaffery

Morwell Citizens Band is calling on musicians from across Gippsland to take part in an exciting regional music project leading to the Victorian Bands League State Championships on Saturday 15 August 2026.

The project will bring together local players for a short, focused rehearsal season, culminating in both a concert performance and the opportunity to compete at state level.

Musicians are being invited to join either a Project Concert Band or Project Brass Band, with places available for a wide range of instruments.

The Concert Band is seeking players of flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, double bass and percussion.

The Brass Band is seeking soprano cornet, cornet, tenor horn, trombone, Eb and Bb tuba, and percussion players.

The rehearsal schedule has been designed to be achievable for community musicians, with six fortnightly Tuesday evening rehearsals, one concert, one additional rehearsal, and then the State Championships.

Rehearsals will be held at the Morwell Town Common Pavilion, corner of Elgin and Chapel Streets, Morwell, from 7 pm to 9 pm.

The project is open to interested musicians who are able to play their instrument and follow instruction. It is a chance for players across Gippsland to come together, build ensemble skills, represent the region, and be part of a high-energy musical experience.

All interested individuals must first contact the band via Messenger or contact the Music Director on 040 7792 131.
