Gippsland-based metalcore band Ocean Sleeper have returned with their first release of the year, unveiling their brand new single “Break The Cycle” alongside an official music video.
Released via BMG/Rise Records, “Break The Cycle” marks a major new chapter for the band, with national heavy music media describing the track as one of Ocean Sleeper’s heaviest and most ambitious releases to date. Tone Deaf reported that the release arrives alongside the band signing a new global recording deal with Rise Records and BMG, signalling a significant step forward for the regional Victorian act.
The new single combines the band’s trademark emotional intensity with sharper, heavier production and a huge melodic chorus. Blunt Magazine described Ocean Sleeper as a regional Victorian metalcore outfit “entering a new chapter,” noting the song’s bruising riffs, urgency and cinematic video.
“Break The Cycle” was co-written with Jon Lundin of Point North, following a connection sparked when Ocean Sleeper brought Point North to Australia for their sold-out 2025 tour. According to Rock N Load, the song was later developed after the band travelled to the United States during a run connected to Warped Tour appearances and studio sessions.
For Gippsland, the release is another reminder that regional Victoria continues to produce artists with national and international reach. Ocean Sleeper have built a loyal following through emotionally charged songwriting, heavy live shows and consistent touring, and “Break The Cycle” positions the band for an even bigger year ahead.
The single is also available now on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and SoundCloud. Spotify lists “Break The Cycle” as a 2026 release by Ocean Sleeper.
